Collector

About the project

We are currently investigating the feasibility of developing a wind farm near Collector in southern New South Wales. The proposed Collector Wind Farm would be installed on a site stretching up to several kilometres in the area north west of the town of Collector, between Collector Road and the Hume Highway.

The wind farm will include up to 80 wind turbines installed over the site as well as electrical infrastructure to enable it to be connected into the national energy grid. The project will bring jobs and economic benefits to the area during the construction phase of the project and over its operating life. It is estimated that the project would require investment of up to $400 million.

Initial studies suggest that the site is well suited for the development of a wind farm. Wind speeds in the area ideal for harnessing this renewable energy source. Current estimates suggest that the wind farm would produce enough clean energy to provide power to approximately 80,000 New South Wales homes.

What opportunities are there for community input into this proposal?

We have a proud history of developing positive long-term relationships with the communities in which we work. We see this is a two-way process. Gaining local knowledge and understanding community views will be important considerations for us in undertaking the various technical studies and assessing the potential of the site to host a wind farm. We are committed to involving the community throughout the development process and we undertake to provide information in a timely and transparent manner.

We expect that the local community will have a range of views about this project and we anticipate that these views will allow us to develop the best project possible.

There are a number of ways that you can gain information on the project and contribute to the development process, including:

  • The windfarm website www.windfarms.net.au will provide regular updates on the development of the project and will provide up to date information on the proposal at this website
  • Community open house information days. We will advertise any future community information days well in advance and will work to ensure all interested parties have a chance to find out more and share their views on this project
  • Regular community newsletters, which will be produced periodically through out the development and construction phases of the project
  • Representatives are available at request for one-on-one meetings with interested or concerned parties
  • Correspondence via telephone, email or letter to Project Manager, Nick Valentine

We have also made a commitment to NSW Department of Planning and to the Upper Lachlan Shire Council to keep them informed throughout the project.
